You ain't foolin' nobody, bub. Don't matter how much that plastic or cardboard replica of a Ferrari Testarossa looks like the real car (and in this case, it doesn't), everyone sees what you are doing. Just like a bad Halloween costume, everyone knows it's you and in this case everyone knows that, this is your everyday driver with some sort of poorly fitting, make believe Ferrari suit. Reminds me of the first Men in Black movie.
Speaking of Ferrari's.........
Remember this team of bad guy hunting cops? Roaming the wilds of Miami in their Ferrari Daytona cabrio, looking the part of the druggies, who they were after. Take another look. Closer. At first blush, their ride is a Ferrari, but actually it is a Corvette (the windshield is the giveaway), with a very well done fiberglass replica body. Fooled most people, who thought the boys were cruising their hood in a million dollar ride.
Wouldn't you like an exotic, but your disposable income precludes a mega buck supercar? Are you just like the rest of us? But, as always there is a solution for your pain. Let's start at the very top and work down......
Priced out a Bugatti Veyron these days? Even if you can find a nice low mileage example, it's going to set you back over a $1,000,000 US. If you can find one. Fear not, there are companies that, will take a more budget friendly $100,000, or slightly less, and put you into a nicely done replica. This silver Veyron is not what it seems, since it is indeed a replica. Only your insurance company will know for certain.
Lamborghini? Of course, this famous name plate can be bought for much less than $1m, but think of the maintenance costs. A replica would fit the bill nicely.......
The iconic Countach in your driveway would be the envy of your jealous neighbours. Make it red, of course. Sure, a real one would cost more than your house, but who's going to spill the beans? Just another lottery winner? Want something a little newer? Ok, so here's a white Diablo. A bit more subtle than the Countach, since maybe all that flash is just not your thing. Subtle is a relative term here, ok?
Ferrari? Another iconic brand and even a cheap used one (there are such things) will cost you your kids' education in maintenance. No, you want another budget friendly solution. Take your pick, since when it comes to the prancing horse, the replicas are endless.......
But look closely. Very closely. Some replicas are bang on, while others are just a line or two off kilter. Maybe trying to avoid copyright infringements? Could be, since Ferrari has gone after some of these companies. Parked? Yep, you'll fool a few people. Open the engine compartment? Game's over, pal, particularly if the motor is in the front, as it is in one of these supposedly mid-engined beauties. Start it up? If your friends missed seeing the engine, they sure won't miss the sound. Actually, they will miss the sound of a red blooded Ferrari power plant. But, hey, you are a poseur. You want the look, without the huge cash outlay, so any of these almost Ferrari's should do the trick.
Too exotic for your taste? You want the uptown vibe, but with a surburban budget? Then here's your new ride......
A beautiful Bentley and to top it off, it is easily serviced at your local Chrysler dealer (and no, it is not based on the 300). Who's to know? This is your boulevard cruiser, so no need to be embarrassed by the lowly V6 under the hood. Cruise slowly thru your hood, so everyone will know that, it is you with the exquisite taste and the fat wallet. Ah, the good life!
Kit cars. Replicas. They've come a long way, from just being plain weird designs, trying to look exotic, but in reality looking excretable. Yes, sir, now just pick your dream ride and cruise the internet to see who is copying it. Easy, eh?
Or maybe you liked the the original kit car concept? Ok, so, I'll leave you with something to dream about, while the rest of us show off our make believe Ferrari's, Lambo's and Veyron's.........
Until next time.......
